The move to Gisborne in regional Victoria provided Architectural Cladding Suppliers, LCS Plumbing & Cladding, and COLORBOND® steel with the opportunity to use Snaplock more than ever before!

External metal cladding and roofing, colours, and textures played a big role in the 2022 season of The Block. With construction completed on rural acreages 40 minutes outside of Melbourne, how the finished homes related to the surrounding landscape was extremely important to all involved.

All the homes were built into the hillside at different elevations – sharing different versions of the views of the Macedon Ranges. The ACS team was super excited to see our COLORBOND® steel Matt Snaplock metal cladding and roofing products play a leading role. To be able to stand back and admire the beautifully-finished homes was very rewarding for our team, LCS Plumbing & Cladding, and COLORBOND® steel.

Snaplock finished with varying colours of COLORBOND® steel, played a starring role on The Block 2022 – delivering a stunning architectural aesthetic.

As clearly shown, our metal cladding and roofing products made a bold architectural statement for the Block 2022. With each striking facade and roof, the scene was set in Gisborne, Victoria. The unique location meant that the importance of the external character of each home and how they connected to local surroundings through colour, texture, and form was super important.

The original 1800’s homesteads were the original inspiration for the selection of traditional, historical building styles. The pitched roofs aimed to mimic the distant mountains, creating a starting point from where each home design unfolded.

House 1 delivered a great example of the versatility of Snaplock and the colours of COLORBOND® steel, with a dynamic design creating a memorable impact in the rural setting. According to Colour and Design consultants Alison Fenton and Christine McCoy are big fans of the striking combinations that House 1 provided. “It’s a really strong start to the beginning of that journey through The Block estate. It’s monochromatic. It’s classic, it’s bold. It’s a really striking scene as you first come off that road,” says Ali.

Shape and texture are also important, with the use of Matt finishes on the pavilion and homestead, and the repetition of line from the Snaplock metal cladding profile flowing into the COLORBOND® steel roof. The Pavillion features 25mm Snaplock fabricated by ACS for LCS Plumbing & Cladding – finished in COLORBOND® steel Matt Monument® – with a pan width of 325mm.

House 2 used exterior colours strongly influenced by the landscape and surroundings. Blending the old building at the front with the new pavilion behind was achieved both through colour and texture. The combination of COLORBOND® steel’s classic and Matt finish delivered a subtle contrast, allowing the Matt finish to play the hero, with the colour choice of Wallaby®, delivering a layer of warmth. House 3 was the largest structure this year, sitting on the top of the hill with an incredible outlook. Its trio of colours: Shale Grey™Basalt® Matt, and Ironstone® across the roofs and walls of the main homestead, pavilion, and back buildings, was the most complex design scheme on The Block in 2022. With these three colours and textures, we see a true transformation take place, as the exterior blends in perfectly with the trees and landscape that surround the property. House 4 was hugely popular, with its wraparound porch and curved bay windows. That popularity is shared by its chosen exterior colours and textures – a very on-trend green palette that beautifully complemented the surrounding environment. Pale Eucalypt® and Woodland Grey® delivered a revitalised architectural aesthetic. The warm, dark tones provided something truly special.
