Melbourne Connect is located on the former Royal Women’s Hospital site, on the corner of Swanston and Grattan Streets and boasts smart and sustainable design with a 6-star Green Star rating, a 4.5-star NABRS water rating, a 5-star NABRS energy rating and employs on-site rainwater harvesting as well as solar and geothermal energy.
This new development in Melbourne’s CBD, has an inspirational feel thanks to the extensive use of Interlocking metal cladding finished with COLORBOND® steel Ultra Monument® and Night Sky®.
According to Mathew MacDonald from Professional Plumbing Contractors, the Interlocking metal cladding profiles delivered something unique and special for all parties involved. The builder Lendlease collaborated with the PPC team and Architectural Cladding Suppliers to ensure the metal cladding was perfectly suited.
Mathew adds, “This install was detailed, requiring careful coordination and planning in both fabrication and installation. The interlocking profiles used as a soffit finished with COLORBOND® steel Night Sky® were installed in a stretch-bond pattern to deliver an architectural showpiece for our client… Making this project a real success.”

Interlocking is used predominantly in-wall and soffit cladding applications, panels can be installed horizontally, vertically, or even diagonally to add a dramatic, sophisticated look to any building façade. Panel widths vary from 205mm to 505mm dependant on the material required, with up to a 25mm recess between panels.
